SCMS was set up in 2007 by well known Sligo bassist Eddie Lee and drummer Ken McDonald. Eddie Lee is administrator of Sligo Jazz Project, which hosts an annual international summer school and festival. Seeing a dearth in music education on popular instruments in the region, Eddie and Ken decided to open SCMS and offer this service. Ballinode College - Sligo School of Further Education - quickly came onboard as a most welcome host for SCMS. All ages and levels are accepted from beginners to advanced players.

SCMS provides assistance to Leaving cert and junior cert students in preparing for performance exams

Eddie Lee: “We concentrate on tunes as early as possible. The Rockschool method allows the student to get playing entire pieces quite early the course, soon after basic technique has been taught. The whole course is very performance-oriented”. Rockschool also provides examiners for students wishing to take Grades in their chosen instrument.
