SLIGO'S OWN "SCHOOL OF ROCK"

SCMS was set up in 2007 by well known Sligo bassist Eddie Lee and drummer Ken McDonald. Eddie Lee is administrator of Sligo Jazz Project, which hosts an annual international summer school and festival. Seeing a dearth in music education on popular instruments in the region, Eddie and Ken decided to open SCMS and offer this service. St Edwards School - also home to Sligo Academy of Music - has recently come onboard as a most welcome host for SCMS. All ages from 8 upwards and all levels are accepted, from beginners to advanced players.

Eddie Lee on SCMS courses: “We concentrate on getting students to play tunes as early as possible. The Rockschool course allows the student to get playing entire pieces quite early on, soon after basic technique has been taught. It is very performance-oriented”.

SCMS provides assistance to Leaving cert and junior cert students in preparing for performance exams.

ROCKSCHOOL(TM)

SCMS has in 2010 become a Rockschool Examination Centre and hosted the first official Rockschool examiner in June 2010.
